The Financial Knowledge Institute (FKI) has a two-fold mission statement that is well known:
Firstly, it involves educating the public in various areas of financial concern including investing, taxes, real estate, and insurance. Skilled Financial Advisors donate their time to provide financial information and guidance at free workshops around the country. “This is a way for us to give back to the community”, says Steve Sexton, President of The Sexton Financial Group and a director of FKI. “So many people are confused and getting mixed messages these days and we are able to help provide the necessary guidance to give them the answers they need.”
In addition, FKI offers free consultation time to people who need assistance with their specificpersonal financial situations. As a result, the process very often results in finding money that has "fallen through the cracks." While some people may choose to use this money in a variety of ways; reinvest in their homes, pay of debts, or go on vacation, etc. the Financial Knowledge institute asks them to consider giving some of it back. “We simply ask that clients consider donating a portion of the money to a good cause, but don’t pressure them at all”, Sexton explains. The concept has been extremely well-received as a way to support worthy causes in a very painless way; with ‘found money’. For those that do not have a specific charity in mind, they often ask the Financial Knowledge Institute, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to take some of the money found through the process and donate it to a charity on their behalf.
